About us

PenPoints was created by Mickael ROBIN, a French dad of 2 boys attending an English primary school in Dubai, UAE.

Who invented PenPoints?

PenPoints was invented by Mickael ROBIN, a French dad of 2 boys studying in a British school in Dubai, UAE.

With more than 20 years of experience in digital assets, and a real-life experience of guiding children in their spelling journey from FS1 to year 7, Mickael has the relevant skills and experience to create an app that will help children (and their parents!) improve spelling and handwriting.

How was Penpoints invented?

The core idea behind PenPoints – sending a photo of handwritten words to an AI agent using OCR – was invented during a hectic spelling practice session with my dyslexic child.

I was looking for a way to let my child practice spelling alone, that would rely on handwriting rather than on typing.

After checking that recent OCR engines are able to extract handwritten words, I invented the flows and features to combine dictation and extraction in the most engaging and pedagogic way.

What's the vision for PenPoints?

Mickael decided to take a break in his career to focus on development and promotion of PenPoints, with an ambition to extend to other languages and other types of exercises (dictation of sentences, creative writing,…).

The first version of Penpoints was released in December 2024.
In 2025, some paid Premium features will be introduced to financially support the cost of hosting and development of the app.
